Kartik Purnima · Dev Deepawali
Dev Deepawali: la Diwali de los dioses en los ghats de Varanasi; también el cumpleaños de Guru Nanak.
Por qué se celebra
On Kartik Purnima the gods are believed to descend to bathe in the Ganga; the day is also Tripurari Purnima and the Sikh Gurpurab of Guru Nanak Dev Ji.
La historia que hay detrás
Lord Shiva destroyed the three flying cities (Tripura) of the demon Tripurasura with a single arrow on this day, and the gods celebrated with lamps — hence Dev Deepawali, “the Diwali of the gods”. Vishnu’s first avatar, Matsya, is also said to have appeared today. On the ghats of Varanasi more than a million lamps are lit at dusk.
Cómo celebrarla
- Take a holy dip at dawn (Kartik snan)
- Float lamps on a river or light lamps at a temple
- Give food and warm clothes
- Visit a gurdwara for Guru Nanak Gurpurab
