Ram Navami
El cumpleaños del Señor Rama, nacido a mediodía en Ayodhya.
Por qué se celebra
Lord Rama, the seventh avatar of Vishnu, was born on Chaitra Shukla Navami at noon, so the day is kept at midday (madhyahna).
La historia que hay detrás
King Dasharatha of Ayodhya had no children. On the advice of sage Vasishtha he performed the putrakameshti yagya, and Agni rose from the fire with a bowl of sacred kheer. Dasharatha shared it among his queens: Kaushalya gave birth to Rama, Kaikeyi to Bharata, and Sumitra to the twins Lakshmana and Shatrughna. Rama grew up to stand for truth, duty and kindness — the ideal son, king and husband.
Cómo celebrarla
- Fast till noon and do Rama puja at midday
- Rock a small cradle with Ram Lalla
- Read the Ramcharitmanas or the Bala Kanda
- Offer panakam (jaggery water) and kosambari
