Masya (Amavas)

Le jour de nouvelle lune, où beaucoup de sikhs se baignent dans des sarovars sacrés comme Tarn Taran.

🔊 Écouter le récit

Pourquoi on la célèbre

Masya is the new moon. Large gatherings take place at historic gurdwaras with sarovars — Tarn Taran, Amritsar, Muktsar — for a holy dip, kirtan and langar.

L’histoire qui s’y rattache

The Gurus taught that no day is lucky or unlucky in itself; what matters is remembering God. Yet the Masya gathering became a tradition of sangat: at Tarn Taran, whose sarovar Guru Arjan Dev Ji built, the Masya mela draws people from across Punjab to bathe, listen to kirtan and serve together.

Comment la célébrer

  • Bathe in a gurdwara sarovar
  • Listen to kirtan and do ardas
  • Serve in the langar
  • Spend the day in simran
