Hola Mohalla
Trois jours d’arts martiaux, de poésie et de fête à Anandpur Sahib, instaurés par Guru Gobind Singh Ji.
Pourquoi on la célèbre
Hola Mohalla is held the day after Holi. Guru Gobind Singh Ji started it in 1701 at Anandpur Sahib as a day of mock battles and military drills.
L’histoire qui s’y rattache
Instead of playing with colours, the Guru gathered the Sikhs for displays of courage: mock battles, horse riding, archery and sword skills, followed by poetry contests and kirtan. “Mohalla” means an organised procession, a march. To this day the Nihang Singhs, in blue robes and tall turbans, lead processions on horseback with gatka displays, and lakhs of devotees gather at Anandpur Sahib and Kiratpur Sahib, with langars along the way.
Comment la célébrer
- Visit Anandpur Sahib or watch the Nihang processions
- Watch or learn gatka
- Attend kirtan and kavi darbar (poetry gatherings)
- Serve at the roadside langars
