Immaculate Conception
La fête catholique (8 décembre) célébrant la conception de Marie, préservée du péché originel.
Pourquoi on la célèbre
On 8 December Catholics celebrate the belief that Mary, from the first moment of her life, was preserved from original sin to be the mother of Jesus. It was declared a dogma by Pope Pius IX in 1854.
L’histoire qui s’y rattache
Four years after the declaration, in 1858, a young girl, Bernadette, saw a lady at the grotto of Lourdes in France who said, “I am the Immaculate Conception.” Lourdes became one of the world’s great pilgrimage places, and Lourdes grottoes stand in many Indian parishes.
Comment la célébrer
- Attend Mass
- Pray the Rosary or visit a Lourdes grotto
- Light a candle for someone in need
- Prepare the crib during Advent
