Uposatha

Los días budistas de observancia de luna llena y luna nueva, para los preceptos, la meditación y el Patimokkha.

🔊 Escuchar la historia

Por qué se celebra

On the full and new moons (and in some traditions the quarter moons), lay Buddhists visit the vihara and keep eight precepts, and monks recite the Patimokkha, their rules of discipline.

La historia que hay detrás

King Bimbisara of Magadha noticed that wandering ascetics of other schools gathered on the moon days to teach, and asked the Buddha to do the same. The Buddha agreed, and the Uposatha became a regular day for renewing commitment to the path.

Cómo celebrarla

  • Keep the eight precepts: no food after noon, no entertainment, simple living
  • Visit a vihara and listen to a Dhamma talk
  • Spend time in meditation
  • Give to the Sangha or to the needy
