Every Shukla Chaturthi is Vinayaka Chaturthi, kept with Ganesha puja at midday — the time of his birth. The one in Bhadrapada is the great Ganesh Chaturthi.

Ganesha was born of Parvati at midday on a Chaturthi, and Shiva made him the lord of the ganas, to be worshipped before all others. Keeping his fourth day each month is believed to clear obstacles from one’s work and studies.

- Worship Ganesha at midday with durva grass and modak
- Fast or eat one meal
- Chant “Om Gan Ganapataye Namah”
- Begin pending work after the puja
