Sangrand
El primer día de cada mes solar, cuando se lee el Barah Maha en los gurdwaras.
Por qué se celebra
Sangrand (sankranti) is the day the Sun enters a new sign and a new month begins in the Punjabi calendar. Sikhs gather at the gurdwara to hear the month’s verse of the Barah Maha.
La historia que hay detrás
In the Guru Granth Sahib, Guru Nanak Dev Ji and Guru Arjan Dev Ji wrote the Barah Maha — the “twelve months” — in which each month of the year is used to describe the soul’s longing for God. On Sangrand the granthi announces the new month and reads its verse, a reminder to begin the month by remembering the Creator.
Cómo celebrarla
- Visit the gurdwara and hear the Barah Maha
- Begin the month with ardas
- Give in charity (dasvandh)
- Serve in the langar
