Sankranti
Le Soleil entre dans un nouveau signe ; un jour de bain sacré et de charité.
Pourquoi on la célèbre
Each month the Sun moves into the next sign of the sidereal zodiac; that moment is a Sankranti. Twelve Sankrantis make the solar year; Makar and Mesha are the greatest. When the Sun enters Dhanu or Meena, Kharmas begins — a month without weddings.
L’histoire qui s’y rattache
Surya, the Sun god, rides a chariot of seven horses driven by Aruna, moving from one rashi to the next. The Puranas say the hours around his change of sign (punya kaal) are especially holy, and whatever is given then returns many times over.
Comment la célébrer
- Bathe early and offer water to the Sun (Surya arghya)
- Give grain, sesame, jaggery or clothes in charity
- Chant the Aditya Hridayam or Surya mantra
- Avoid weddings during Kharmas
