In the Zoroastrian calendar each of the 30 days and 12 months is named after a divine being (Yazata). When a day and a month share a name, it is a Jashan (parab): Farvardegan (Farvardin — the souls), Meher (Mithra — light and truth), Avan (the waters) and Adar (fire).
On Avan Jashan families go to the sea, a river or a well to offer flowers, sugar and coconut to the waters and pray to Ardvi Sura Anahita. On Adar Jashan the household fire is honoured — families clean the kitchen hearth and draw chalk patterns there. On Meher Jashan (Mehergan) the harvest and the light of truth are celebrated; on Farvardegan prayers are said for the departed at the fire temple and at the Towers of Silence (dokhma).
- Attend the jashan ceremony at the agiary
- On Avan, offer flowers at the sea or a well; on Adar, honour the hearth fire
