Eid-ul-Fitr
La fête de la rupture du jeûne, le premier jour de Chawwal après le Ramadan.
Pourquoi on la célèbre
Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan. It begins when the new crescent of Shawwal is sighted, and it is forbidden to fast on this day.
L’histoire qui s’y rattache
Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) taught that the faithful have two days of celebration a year — Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha. Before the Eid prayer every household gives Zakat-ul-Fitr (fitrana), food or money for the poor, so that no one is left without a festive meal. The day is one of thanks to Allah for the strength to complete the fast.
Comment la célébrer
- Give fitrana before the Eid prayer
- Wear new or clean clothes and offer the Eid namaz at the eidgah or mosque
- Embrace and greet: “Eid Mubarak”
- Share sheer khurma and sevaiyan; give Eidi to children
