Ashwin Shukla Ashtami is the most powerful day of Navratri; the Goddess is worshipped as Mahagauri, and in Bengal the Sandhi Puja falls at the meeting of Ashtami and Navami.
ಇದರ ಹಿಂದಿನ ಕಥೆ
In the battle with the demons Chanda and Munda, the Goddess took the fierce form of Chamunda at the junction of Ashtami and Navami — the moment of Sandhi Puja, marked with 108 lamps and 108 lotuses. In the North, nine young girls are worshipped as forms of the Goddess, since Durga is believed to live in every girl child.
