King Janaka of Mithila announced that Sita would marry the one who could string Lord Shiva’s mighty bow, Pinaka. Kings and princes failed even to lift it. രാമൻ, who had come with sage Vishwamitra, lifted the bow with ease and, as he strung it, it broke with a thunderous sound. Sita garlanded him, and the four brothers were married to Sita, Urmila, Mandavi and Shrutakirti.
