Saint Francis Xavier (1506–1552), a Jesuit missionary, worked in Goa and along India’s coasts. His feast on 3 December draws lakhs of pilgrims to Old Goa.
இதன் பின்னணிக் கதை
A companion of Saint Ignatius of Loyola, Xavier sailed to Goa in 1542, served the sick in hospitals, taught children with songs, and travelled to the fishing villages of the south coast, Sri Lanka, Malacca and Japan. He died on Shangchuan island near China while trying to enter the country; his body was brought back to Goa, where it rests in a silver casket at Bom Jesus.
