Pentecost (“fiftieth day”) celebrates the descent of the Holy Spirit on Mary and the apostles in Jerusalem, giving them courage to preach.

As the disciples prayed together, a sound like a mighty wind filled the house and tongues of fire rested on each of them. They began to speak in other languages, and people from many nations in Jerusalem heard them in their own tongues. Peter preached boldly, and about three thousand people were baptised that day.
