Ash Wednesday opens the forty days of Lent before Easter. Christians receive a cross of ashes on the forehead with the words “Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return.”
यामागची कथा
The forty days recall the forty days Jesus fasted in the desert, where he was tempted by the devil and resisted, answering, “Man shall not live by bread alone.” The ashes, often made by burning the palms of the last Palm Sunday, are an ancient sign of sorrow for sin and a fresh start.
