The story

A poor farmer and his wife had a goose that laid one shining golden egg every morning. Little by little, they became comfortable.

But soon they grew impatient. “If she lays one golden egg a day,” said the farmer, “she must be full of gold inside! Let us take it all at once.”

They chased the goose around the yard until she flew away over the hills, and they never saw her again. Now they had no eggs at all.
