The story

At the end of a rainy day, Sammy the snail started his walk home. He carried his round shell on his back, and he moved slowly — very, very slowly.

A rabbit hopped past. “Hurry, Sammy! It is nearly bedtime!” Sammy smiled. “I am going my own way,” he said. Slow and steady, he slid along a shiny green leaf.

Because he was slow, Sammy saw things nobody else saw. He saw a raindrop sparkling like a tiny star. He saw a ladybird asleep under a petal. He saw the moon rise, big and round, and paint the whole garden silver.

At last Sammy reached his favourite flowerpot. He was home. He took one more look at the quiet, sleepy garden. “What a lovely walk,” he sighed. “Thank you, Moon.”

Then Sammy tucked himself into his cosy shell, as snug as a child in bed. Breathe in… breathe out… Sammy the snail was fast asleep, dreaming slow and happy dreams.
